This is consistent with the immigration legislation that the republican congress passed in the late 90's under his leadership. They forced the USCIS to draft regulations that barred deportation of non-citizens of American spouses or children in the event the deportation would cause financial hardship. The reason being the republican congress felt that breaking up families and removing the bread winner was not in the public interest. The courts have interpreted this to also apply to relationships that are not blood but where someone is a parent figure or simply financial support of a household. I believe there was even one case where the non-resident lived in the United States, the citizen child was overseas, but because he worked here and provided financial support for the citizen child abroad he received protection under the rules. USCIS is known though for ignoring the law and their own regulations until a judge forces them to. If someone can't afford to fight them they do whatever they want.

Hi,

I just read your article, I am seeking political asylum. My Lawyer is not sure how I should be for my interview. I am from Serbia, been beaten ,threaten and chased by hooligans in my country. I was a refugee for 10 yrs.. I am over 6 ft tall and not really masculine. First she said to say that I stood out in a crowd and then no. Then ask for me to join some activist group. I am scared to do public things, because if you check You Tube and gay pride parades you wil see what happens. I need any help you can give me. I am running out of ti,e. Interview next Wednesday.

Thank you for takeing the time to read this.

Sincerely
Olla Dilas
