Immigration Lawyers Who Love What We Do: 4 Parts You Should Know

By: Harlan York
February 2, 2014

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the recording of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme, right here in New Jersey.

It is well established as one of the greatest recordings of all time.

As the father of a ten year old boy who plays jazz piano and saxophone with extraordinary ability, I have rediscovered John Coltrane, with my son.

And as the leader of a team of Immigration Lawyers Who Love What We Do, I often think of A Love Supreme.

It is a rare thing to love what you do all day.

I have spoken to the amazing immigration attorneys in my firm about our passion for our work.

Much like the Coltrane album, one can divide the legal advocacy for immigrants into four sections:

Part 1  Acknowledgement – When a new case arrives, whether it is family or employment immigration, or deportation defense, citizenship, an appeal, waiver, or any other immigration matter, we acknowledge the merits and challenges.

Part 2  Resolution – After recognizing the pros and cons of the matter before us, we resolve to take the case to the best outcome we can, within human reason.

Part 3 Pursuance – We prepare the argument, application, or petition with a great sense that we will follow an expected path.  The pursuance is very much the essence of the matter.  We care deeply about our clients.  Again, we return to the theme of being Immigration Lawyers Who Love What We Do.

Part 4  Psalm – Once the filing is complete, we often are told by our clients that they pray that they will win.  A psalm is a song of worship.  It does not matter what religion our clients are.  They can be Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or any other faith.

In the end, we win a lot more than we lose.

There’s never any guarantee, other than how hard we will work.

But I can certainly say this without reservation:

We truly are Immigration Lawyers Who Love What We Do
