George W. Bush emerges again on Immigration Reform

By: Harlan York
July 9, 2013

Former President George W. Bush spoke out this week – to push Congress to do what he repeatedly favored throughout his time in the White House – to reform immigration.

Bush spoke of fixing the “broken system” and giving people “respect.”

The fact that reform never passed during his eight years as Chief Executive always disturbed Bush.

His Texas roots and similar perspective on immigration as Ronald Reagan made him a champion for legalization of the undocumented.

Bush opined that political motivation is not the best reason for immigration reform.

While many in the GOP have sought Hispanic and Asian votes by favoring reform, the former President pointed out that change is simply best for our country.
