A Change Is Gonna Come

I have written and spoken for years about how our representatives favor certain ideals.  The media sometimes distorts things, but it is now clearer than ever that we are starting to see a change coming.

Today, a group of conservative members of the House voiced agreement with Tea Party member and Senator Rand Paul’s recent talking points on immigration. Paul has spoken positively about immigration reform previously pushed by the Senate bipartisan “Gang of Eight.”

The group included Congressmen Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Raul Labrador (R-ID), Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), Dave Schweikert (R-AZ), Thomas Massie (R-KY), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Mick Mulvaney (R-SC).

Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL) perhaps put it best, echoing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s repeated comments: “We’re not going to round up millions and millions of people, kids and grandmas and grandpas and send them to wherever.”

Huelskamp noted the ways that reform would aid Kansas’ agriculture and added, “the system has been broken,”  with the obvious implication that a fix is needed.

While many in the press conclude that this support is a radical shift from previous politics, Labrador announced that many in the GOP have been pro-reform for a long time.

One look back at my many blog posts over the last few years will show that Labrador is right.  Immigration reform is favored by leaders in commerce, religion and law enforcement.
