DREAM Act will not go away

By: Harlan York
July 6, 2011

What does the DREAM Act mean? Legalization for youth who came here at least 5 years ago, before age 16 and who wish to complete 2 years of college or military service. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the DREAM Act will result in $1.4 billion in deficit reduction over the next decade. Students will pay taxes and buy homes. The DREAM Act also will help strengthen the military as so many undocumented youth who have grown up here are willing to bear arms for the US. Up to 2 million could qualify for the DREAM Act. Those eligible must be of good moral character and face requirements stricter than those needed for a green card.

Election time is imminent. Something has to happen.
